Those of you who attended Affiliate Summit last week in Las Vegas know that we helped to host a fun fundraising event for the National Breast Cancer Foundation after the rocking ShareASale Karaoke Party. We hosted the fundraiser along with our client BowlingShirt.com and our friends at ThingsFromAnotherWorld.com and AffiliateMarketersGiveBack.com.

All told, we raised more than $2300 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation! (This amount is likely higher since there were several bowlers added on at the last minute that still need to send me their reciept confirmations.)

All of the pictures are available on Facebook, so be sure to check them out and tag yourself!

We’re doubly excited to have both Karen Garcia and BowlingShirt.com nominated for Pinnacle Awards for Affiliate Summit West 2010.

Karen has worked hard on the front lines of the Advertising Tax fight in California, making several trips to the capitol with other passionate industry members to speak to and educate legislators. She has been nominated for Affiliate Marketing Advocate of the Year and we’re very proud of her participation and honored by the nomination.

BowlingShirt.com is up for Exceptional merchant of the Year and is nominated along side Amazon.com and the Ebay Partner network. We are extremely excited to be nominated regardless of the outcome. Of course, we won’t complain if David should happen to overcome two Goliaths.

Thank you for all of the nominations. It is an unexpected and wonderful surprise!

Affiliate Summit East 2009 is nearly here! To say that I’m excited is an understatement…I look forward to each and every Affiliate Summit conference for the following reasons:

  • I get to meet new affiliates and potential new clients.
  • I get to meet affiliates that I’ve worked with (sometimes for years) for the first time in person.
  • I get to catch up with old friends and acquaintences.
  • I get to host two awesome events with Wade & Joel, the CAMA Gospel Brunch and a super secret event for our client’s affiliates!
  • I get to spend an entire weekend NOT explaining what affiliate marketing is!

and best of all, this time, for the very first time, I am a speaker!

Affiliate Summit East SpeakerCome and listen to me, Brian Littleton of ShareASale, Melanie Seery of Affiliate Voice and Beth Kirsch, volunteer for the Performance Marketing Alliance on the Advertising Tax Impact, Accomplishments and the Future.

Will you be at Affiliate Summit in New York? Let us know! We’d love to set aside some time to talk shop, shoot the breeze and find how we can help you with any of our programs or services.

Affiliate Summit Success Tip:

Now, I’ve been to a lot of Summits over the years, so over the next week, I’ll be posting tips for how to make your Affiliate Summit experience a success! Today’s tip: Plan ahead! You really don’t want to be standing at the door to the Meet Market reading the agenda…you’ll miss out on great sessions and opportunities if you are!

Step One: Download this: AffiliateSummit2009-East_Schedule This is a simple spreadsheet you can print out on a single sheet of paper and take with you. I’ve been using this for years and our team swears by it.

Step Two: Decide what sessions you will attend by reading the descriptions in the Affiliate Summit Agenda. Mark them on the spreadsheet. Be sure to sign up and mark the parties you plan on attending as well…some of the best deals and networking happen here, so don’t skip out!

Step Three: Print out the schedule and take it with you. I keep mine folded up in my pocket at all times. (Be sure to select the “Print to one page” option to get it all on one sheet.) Not only will it keep you on track and remind you about events, it’s great for jotting down notes and scheduling impromptu meetings.

Check back here tomorrow for another Affiliate Summit Success tip!

We’re back and caught up on a little bit of sleep! Affiliate Summit West 2009 in Las Vegas was an amazing event, as always. Missy Ward and Shawn Collins (and Amy Rodriguez) really made this event fantastic.

We had the pleasure of hosting the CAMA Gospel Brunch on Sunday morning prior to the Meet Market and then took a bunch of super affiliates to the Gold Coast Casino at midnight for our first Bowl-A-Rama with BowlingShirt.com! I’m still sorting through and labelling photos,  but you can check them out now on Flickr: Karen’s Affiliate Summit West 2009 Photos.

Over the next several days, we’ll be posting recaps of sessions and important information you need to know!

Happy Selling!

Affiliate Summit Live: Ethics

I think one of the most anticpated sessions at Affiliate Summit East is the panel on Ethics in Affiliate Marketing moderated by Haiko from AbestWeb.com with panelists from PepperJam, Shareaale, AffiliateCrew, FlamingoWorld and eBates.

Haiko opened with a great call to consider the ethics (or lack thereof) that exist in the industry that we work in.

Michael Jones from Pepperjam talked a bit about PepperJam’s commitment to transparencey of the affiliate/merchant relationship and their interest in working with the emerging groups that are springing up to speak for the concerns of the various sectors of the industry.

Paul Nichols from eBates definitely stirred the room with his claim that eBates has been affiliate redirect (commission theft) since 2001.  He went as far as to claim that the continuing claims by affiliates that eBates is doing something improper is legally actionable based on his experience as a former prosecuting attorney.

Connie Berg of FlamingoWorld laid out the fact that plenty of rules that are in place, that many people choose not to follow and networks that choose not to enforce them because of their interest in profitability over fairness.

Chuck Hamrick spoke a bit on issues of cleaning up the industry internally before regulation comes in from outside.

Brian Littleton of Shareasale in typical fashion was able to boil the arguments down and make some great poins.

First: we need to look at the big picture.  He gave the example of an affiliate who is violating at Google terms and conditions and stating that although the action is not Illegal… it is Unethical and that affiliates who engage in behavior like this would be thrown out of the network because of their overall impact on the ponds whose water we share.

Good discussion followed with points on the consumers role in all of this as consumers choose to use tools like eBates for specific reasons.  Lisa Picarille posed the question of viability of certification of affiliates that do engage in ethical practices.

Running out of battery… gotta go
